2027 RAM
1500 REV Preview

Ram is steering the company’s first electric pickup in a different direction. Rather than rely on battery power and public charging, the 2027 Ram 1500 REV will use a range-extending system that pairs electric motors with a gasoline-powered generator. Owners will get a double whammy: the instant torque of an EV and the convenience of conventional refueling. The official word from Ram is that the REV will offer up to 145 miles of electric-only driving and a total range of up to 690 miles. Based on information released by Ram, we expect this groundbreaking truck to be available later this year as a 2027 model. We’ve compiled the following preview covering what we know so far.

What Makes the REV Different?

The easiest way to understand the REV is to think of it as an electric truck with its own built-in charging station. The wheels are powered entirely by electric motors, not directly by the gasoline engine. Instead, a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 serves as a generator, producing electricity as battery levels begin to drop. Drivers will be able to control when the generator engages.

This technology separates the REV from a traditional hybrid. In most hybrids, the gas engine can directly power the wheels alongside the electric motor. Ram’s setup keeps the driving experience fully electric while adding gasoline backup power for longer trips, towing, or situations where charging infrastructure may be limited. Ram’s approach doesn’t reinvent the wheel; rather, it uses existing technology with durability and reliability in mind.

Performance and Capability

Ram is calling the REV a game-changer because of the serious performance numbers expected from its dual-motor setup. These electric units (one mounted on each axle) are expected to produce a combined 647 horsepower and 610 lb.-ft. of torque through a standard all-wheel drivetrain. The company estimates that this crew cab-based truck will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, making the REV one of the quickest pickups on the planet.

That said, Ram isn’t focused only on straight-line speed. The REV is expected to set key best-in-class benchmarks, including a towing capacity up to 14,000 pounds. As for its hauling numbers, the REV is expected to support payload up to 2,625 pounds.

The REV rides on a body-on-frame platform similar to the standard Ram 1500 rather than using a car-style unibody design. Independent rear suspension and available air springs are expected to help preserve the smooth ride quality and maintain hauling capability.

Charging

The REV’s power will come from a liquid-cooled 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack paired with a gas-fueled 130-kilowatt generator (the Pentastar V6). The REV will also support multiple charging methods, including Level 1/120-volt, Level 2/240-volt, and Level 3/DC fast charging. Under peak conditions, fast charging will be able to add 50 miles of range in about 10 minutes.

2027 RAM 1500 REV Trims

Trims

Ram will offer the 1500 REV in three trim packages: Tradesman, Laramie, and Tungsten. The Tradesman will target buyers looking primarily for a work truck, while the Laramie will balance features and function. On that note, Ram is touting the Tungsten as the “most luxurious Ram 1500 ever.” This top-of-the-line edition will be available with premium leather upholstery and heated/ventilated 24-way power front seats with massage.

Exterior Design

The REV shares much of the regular Ram 1500’s appearance. Its proportions and profile are still recognizable as a full-sized Ram pickup, but several details signal that this version uses a completely different powertrain.

Up front, the truck trades the traditional grille design for a smoother and more streamlined fascia with illuminated Ram lettering and a full-width LED light bar. The lighting elements are thinner and more technical-looking than those found on the gasoline-powered version. Another telltale sign of the REV is a discreet charging port located on the driver’s-side front fender.

2027 RAM 1500 REV Infotainment

Infotainment

The REV will feature a dashboard with large digital displays, including an available 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen. The Tungsten will be available with the most powerful sound system in this segment: a 1,228-watt Klipsch audio system with 23 speakers.
